Ray Price and Willie Nelson's friendship has been chronicled since the early 60s, when Willie was then writing songs for stars like Patsy Cline, Faron Young, Billy Walker and Ray. Perhaps most notable is "Night Life' which became a hit for Ray Price and later for Willie himself. Their professional relationship and friendship has been long and strong, and they still share the stage. On November 15, 2009, as Carl Cornelius, Steve Gilcrease and I sat in Carl's office right before the performance, I asked Carl to baptize the painting. Without any hesitation, he said, "A friendship that lasts"... and so that's how the title of the painting came to be. Ray Price received his own painting for his collection and another one that I had painted is now being exhibited at Willie's Place Gallery at Carl's Corner. Photos by Sue Smith and Elizabeth Alvarez
